If you love banana bread, then you will love this recipe!
Banana Bread brownies with Brown Butter Frosting are quick and easy to make, but do not stick around long. I have always wanted to try to freeze these bars to see how they held up, but honestly, they have never lasted long enough to see the inside of a freezer 🙂
For these bars you will need flour, sugar, butter, sour cream, baking soda, salt, eggs, vanilla, and 3-4 ripe bananas.
Wondering why my bananas are a little “frosty”? Well, whenever we have extra bananas, I throw them in the freezer in a ziploc baggie. They are easy to defrost and come in handy when I make these bars or banana bread.
Heat your oven to 375 degrees. Then, grease and flour a 15 x 10 jelly roll pan.
In a large bowl, beat together sugar, sour cream, softened butter, and eggs until creamy. Blend in mashed bananas and vanilla. Add flour, baking soda, salt & blend for one minute. Stir in walnuts (optional).
Pour batter into pan.
This batter does not move much during baking as it is pretty thick, so you want to make sure that it is evenly distributed in your pan. Otherwise, you will end up with bars that are uneven heights with the shortest ones being over done and dry.
Bake 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Towards the end of the baking time, you will want to start making your Brown Butter Frosting.
When bars are done, take out of oven allow to cool for 5-10 minutes, then frost.
